Here’s the thing — I am not a skincare fundie (if you follow me you would know), but I have learnt a lot more about myself, my skincare and my holistic health in the last few years than ever before.
Here’s the disclaimer — skincare is personal. It’s all about what works for you, your body, and your very unique makeup.
Without further ado, let’s get into it!
The Ask?
La Roche-Posay chose little old me and seventeen other South African influencers to attend their first-ever LIVE #Dermclass. In its totality, the event was attended by over 3000 guests from over 50 countries.
In my view, the conference theme #SkinIsMoreThanSkin showed how the brand understands its 21st-century customer: a customer who considers their holistic health and the strives for synergy because they know that many parts equal a whole (this is a whole ‘nother conversation). Here’s my post on the conference.
Not only was I invited to grow in knowledge, but I was also gifted a few products to use and share my experience of, namely:
- La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+M 400ml (Retails for R450.00)
- La Roche-Posey Effaclar Micro-Peeling Purifying Gel 400ml (Retails for R370.00)
- La Roche-Posay Effaclar Ultra Concentrated Serum 30ml (Retails for R450.00)
- La Roche-Posey La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF50+ 50ml (Retails for R250.00)
The Thoughts?
Please go somewhere else for scientific thoughts. Otherwise,
My skin type? From trial and error I’ve found out the following about my skin: I have sensitive, combination skin with the following prominent skin issues —
- Dryness / Dullness;
- Scarring/blemishes (adult acne and skin with a lack of Vitamin E);
- Periodic adult acne
The Usage?
La Roche-Posay Lipikar Balm AP+M

Now, this balm is a replenishing body balm and is recommended for those with “eczema or an atopic-prone skin, extremely dry, irritated skin, and those looking for anti-scratching body skincare.”
If you suffer from dry skin type (which is different from sometimes having dry skin) — this is for you.
While I’ve never suffered from eczema, I’m one of those kids that have had to put vaseline on my knees and elbows in-between breaks throughout school. I know what being ashy is. So, yes, I’ve tried all of the body balms (trust me!), and this one ranks up there.
I was generous with my usage — even in summer, I used the 400ml up very quickly! It’s got a silky (not heavy) feel to sit and is great to put on straight after a bath as the natural ingredients don’t leave you sticky.
La Roche-Posey Effaclar Micro-Peeling Purifying Gel

While I see this as a fantastic product — and one that offers excellent value for the cost, it wasn’t exactly right for my skin.
The Effaclar Micro-peeling Purifying gel is a cleanser for daily exfoliation and is excellent for oily, acne-prone skin on the face and body. Because I have combination skin, it left my skin feeling a little tight after use. I like to keep the moisture in there — I need every last bit I can get — so, after about a week of use (with already clear skin from drinking up to 2l of water a day and going makeup-free), I moved on.
If your skin type is right, go with it though. I have friends who swear by this product and have left me 4-minute voice notes saying as much.
La Roche-Posay Effaclar Ultra Concentrated Serum

Much like the purifying gel, I felt as if I needed a bit more “nourishment” from a serum; however, I will say that this product is excellent to include in your nighttime routine. Because of what I mentioned before, I resolved to use either the serum or the purifying gel in my routine and ended up using the serum more plumping it up with a great night cream or moisturiser afterwards.
And, last but not least…
La Roche-Posey La Roche-Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF50+

Let me start by saying, for someone who isn’t a sunscreen person, I carry this everywhere — it is currently in my handbag, and I’ve taken it around with me over the last month. I’m sad that we haven’t been allowed to beach, but it accompanied me there when we were.
An excellent (albeit expensive for 50ml) buy this SPF50+ Anthelios Invisible Fluid does the job for a person of colour — it is invisible (in and out of the water). So, if you’re looking for something to fulfil the above needs and you have the cash to spare, do it.
Hope that this helped, someone!
All the best on your skincare journey — love, as always,
#TheGoodSis
