Wide-leg Jeans… Three Days, Three Ways

Let me start this by confessing that I didn’t wear these jeans for three days. I wore them for… *clears throat* twelve. I only documented three days for you (sadly!)…

Lockdown has changed me. How? Well, apart from the usual, ‘I’m traumatized from experiencing-a-global-pandemic’ with the rest of the world, I’ve started wearing my highest-ranking comfy items over and over. That’s at least when I dare to get out of athleisure and pajamas.

JEAN JOURNEY

I’m a stickler for finding the right pair of Jeans, just like nearly every woman I know. When I find a store that sells a cut that works for me — I’m loyal to the death. Up until now, that store was ZARA, and I’d by my ZARA jeans on the ZARA sale (as I do with many of my ZARA items. I do not come from Constantia). I’ve always been anxious about trying the larger chain stores that look like they make clothing for bodies of small people born many, many years after me — without curves, knocking knees, and a bit of a bum.

This thought process stopped me from buying jeans in general. It was always a tedious task. And, I basically wore out everything I owed until my good sense wouldn’t let me anymore and force me to make another purchase.

P.S. Yes, I’ve tried Levi’s jeans. I’m not so lucky to have found the style for me. They all look horrible.

Recently though, I was distracted by a good shaped wide-leg jean from Cotton On — so distracted that I got two pairs: black and blue on sale (two for R500). I reasoned that I needed more jeans (valid), I needed more comfy clothing (also valid), and that this was a steal in any circumstance (except when I am thrifting)… Mario said that at that price, he would have made the purchase as well. So, I bought them feeling justified.

I was pleasantly surprised when they fit me well without having to try them on in the shop. The above-the-ankle crop is stylish and generally flattering, elongating the leg and bringing focus to the shoe.

I was so pleasantly surprised that I wore them for 12 days straight — and still haven’t put them in the wash. Below is a humble documentation of 3 of the days…

DAY ONE OUTFIT DETAILS

  • H&M Hoodie — Stolen from the men’s section on sale for R200 last winter
  • Thrifted Jacket — I bought it for around R30 about 7 years ago, and found one similar when I moved to Cape Town for R300… To avoid being scammed, Cape Town’s thrift scene is very much about who you know and where you go
  • Cotton On Body Warmer — I wanted the oversized look and opted for an L, otherwise, I am a size S or 8
  • Cotton On Wide Leg Jeans
  • Classic Red Slip-On Vans

Love — #TheGoodSis

Hi Friend,

I genuinely hope that this message not only finds you well, but full of hope and expectancy.

For a long while now – a few years – I’ve had it heavy on my heart to start something. Something authentic, something with depth, something that offered a holistic approach to health and wellness to the non-white (BIPOC) female, and I’m finally doing it. This is it.

It’s a online platform of curated content largely speaking into the following:

  • Travel
  • Wellness
  • Culture

Its name is TRAVEL LIGHT.

A place where people learn how to navigate through life “lightly.” Without baggage – emotionally, mentally, physically, and more… A new perspective.

Now, obviously, any woman is welcome to come onto the site in an effort to find a way to navigate through certain issues she may have in her life, but, anything we share will be from non-white professionals and from a non-white cultural view point…

… Because it’s important,

Love
